This year I was confronted with an issue that soon resulted in a full blown panic mom attack. I realized that my eleven year old daughter (then ten) had gradually been pulling out hair from her eye brows. After I scrambled to the make up counter for brow corrector and silently berated myself for not catching on sooner I hit the research trail.
What I discovered was how common it was for kiddos with ADHD and other similar challenges to funnel their excess energy into these types of behaviors. Also…. how crappy I feel for getting so mad about her picking at scabs all this time.
So, how to redirect this energy?? There are many many great websites that offer brilliant products to address this issue but I happen to be broke and have began making my own. I hope these ideas benefit you and that I can come up with more ideas to do the same for you and others in the future.
Created with dollar store pipe cleaners and a plastic ring I found at a Home Depot paint swatch display. I added some bling from my scrapbook goodies because…. She’s fabulous.
Same idea on this one, except using yarn instead of pipe cleaners.
I like the idea of making them discreet for older kids especially concerned with the possibility of getting embarrassed.
Hope this was helpful!
